Headliners
For many years the major players in the casino scene have offered what has come to be known as headlining entertainment, those biggies of the entertainment world that offer an adjunct reason to visit a casino. Headliner History Most historians point to the casino heyday of the 1950s and 1960s as being the point in gambling history when casinos began believing they could make a bigger buck from providing quality entertainment. During these decades entertainers such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin along with scores of popular comedians and musicians made the regular rounds of the casino theaters and lounges. Variety acts were popular on early television and so the entertainers converted well to lounge acts. Competition For Entertainment No casino entertainment package of the twenty-first century would be complete without its entertainment lineup. In fact, nearly every casino from coast to coast is in competition to provide the best assemblage of entertainment possible. Even riverboat and land-based casinos of the Mississippi area are in competition to have state-of-the-art theatrical venues where they can host country music favorites and popular Broadway shows. Locations like Biloxi, Mississippi and riverboat casinos in the New Orleans area bet on visitors also partaking in local attractions. Indian casinos such as Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut are rich enough to provide theaters competitive to those found in Las Vegas or Atlantic City. The popularity of such casino resorts is incentive enough for many entertainers to book a stop on their tours. In Las Vegas, Wayne Newton is a mainstay at the Stardust, one of the early casinos. The contemporary theatrical circus, Cirque du Soleil, owns a host of different themed shows at as many different casino resorts. A show like Cirque draws crowds simply for the eclectic and exhilarating entertainment, right up the alley of Las Vegas. Besides these consistent show-stoppers, casinos across the board pack their entertainment calendars with heavy-weights of the music, theater and comedy industries. The Entertainment Package Shaping the move toward making big entertainment a casino business in its own right is the observation in the last decade or so, that when casinos have the ability to provide top notch entertainment, there will also be an audience for fine dining and upscale shopping, both of which serve to round out the new casino resort package. Headlining entertainment acts bring resorts millions of dollars in revenue and hundreds of thousands of visitors to their entertainment complexes annually. contact@findcasinofun.com |
